Former French Minister – The common fisheries policy has been a success, and has provided decent incomes on both sides.

With communities around the UK being decimated when Heath gave away UK fishing grounds, it certainly is a kick in the teeth to hear the former French Europe Minister say the common fisheries policy has been a success with fishers on both sides making decent incomes.

When you speak with British fishers, the opposite is the truth. British fishers have been given a small quota for decades compared to the French, which receives the highest percentage of the catch in British waters.

The current system is neither sustainable nor fair when it comes to the common fisheries policy.
